Less than 20 miles from Midtown Manhattan, the Wellmont first opened its doors as a theatre in 1922. It was turned into a movie house in 1929 and later converted into a triplex cinema during the 1970s before closing its doors in 2006. The overhaul of the storied venue involves removing all seating from the main floor and installing state-of-the-art sound, lighting and recording systems. This will allow the Wellmont to be used for Internet, television and radio broadcasts, as well as concerts and live events. The facility is expected to become a world class entertainment venue that will also be integrated into the thriving local arts and civic communities.
