Baseball is Back 2021

Getting Back to Fans in Stands – Baseball Season Is Back!

April 1, 2021 – Costa Mesa, CA.  Play Ball!  It seems like a lifetime since the World Series at Globe Life Field. Subsequently, Tickets.com and Major League Baseball have come a long way to build a comprehensive plan by expanding technology, hardware, and services to support the reopening of stadiums across the nation to fans.

Utilizing in-depth safety precautions and security measures at the ballpark, fans can expect a safe, clean, and friendly environment to enjoy baseball.  Fans can also expect more from their ticketing by utilizing Tickets.com’s powerful, enterprise-grade products, including a redesigned digital ticket purchase flow in MyProVenue™ with detailed safety information, plus pod-style seating to maintain physical distance in the upcoming season.  Here are some things to expect for the upcoming MLB season:

Optimized Seating & Ticket Sales:
  • Clubs with limited capacity due to social distance seating considerations have optimized seating and defined purchasing scenarios in order to safely invite fans into the stands using ProVenue®,  our back-office ticketing solution.
  • Ticket purchasing has been configured to maximize the available inventory while maintaining the integrity of the applicable “pod” or seating group.
  • Season Ticket holders and returning fans will be able to consume their Account Credits online to enable flexibility and get them to as many games as possible.
Digital Tickets and Increased Safety Information:
  • Tickets.com has made it easier than ever for fans to purchase digital tickets using MyProVenue on their mobile device or desktop, including support for Mastercard Click to Pay.
  • As capacity constraints lessen and more fans return, on-site messaging via QR codes may be available to help support fans making self-service purchases as a ‘contactless box office’ while continuing to limit contact with ballpark staff.
  • Fans can also expect staggered physical entry in some cases, reducing potential crowds as a safety precaution.  Using ticket validation rules in ProVenue and more detailed ticket information on-site and on the MyProVenue digital ticket, fans will enter in ways that adhere to safe distance practices.
  • Additional Health Surveys will be used at certain ballparks through the MLB Ballpark app.
Frictionless Ballpark Entry :
  • Gate and suite entrances will also utilize a more frictionless ticket validation experience running on Alfred™, the Tickets.com mobile concierge. Alfred validates tickets and seamlessly synchronizes information with ProVenue, the back-office ticketing platform, providing ballparks with a more comprehensive look at each entrance, such as volume of fans by location.
  • The widespread use of digital tickets on mobile devices within MyProVenue makes entry into the ballpark simple for fans and speedy to validate using Alfred.
  • Using a variety of devices, such as pedestals and hand-held scanners, clubs will provide a digital and, in some cases, contactless ticket validation experience for fans.  Contactless tickets use Near-Field Communication (NFC) with Apple® Wallet and Google Pay™ to make the fan entry faster by triggering validation from the mobile device when in near proximity to the pedestal or hand-held scanner.  There is no need to find or scan a barcode to get into the game.

It’s time to get excited about a new season of baseball, there is history to be made with fans in the stands.  Play Ball!

University of Nevada, Las Vegas Performing Arts Center: Live & Streaming Virtual Events

LAS VEGAS, NV – The University of Nevada, Las Vegas Performing Arts Center (UNLV Performing Arts Center) has shared a ticketing partnership for over 30 years with Tickets.com.  The UNLV Performing Arts Center is host to classical music, self-titled events, performance series from New York, around the world, and more.   Since 1990, Tickets.com and the UNLV Performing Arts Center have ticketed inspiring performances to the campus community.

Like so many venues, the last year for the UNLV Performing Arts Center was filled with unforeseen schedule interruptions and new restrictions for the safety and health of performers, staff, and patrons.  Faced with many challenges, the UNLV Performing Arts Center and Tickets.com persevered and converted many performances to virtual events.

The Technology

Through modifications in setup and purchase flow, the UNLV Performing Arts Center leveraged ProVenue®, Tickets.com’s comprehensive ticketing solution, and MyProVenue™, the patron-facing digital ticket complement, to ticket both Live and Pre-Recorded events.

Adjustments included educating patrons on new processes, updating delivery type, adding information to confirmation emails, and generating extra email communication for virtual links close to the event(s).

Education

As part of the patron adjustment period to virtual, the UNLV Performing Arts Center created and distributed a number of videos to help explain streaming, ticketing, and accessing virtual events.

Live & Pre-Recorded Events

With a mixture of tastes and disciplines, the UNLV Performing Arts Center was able to host several live and pre-recorded events.  In February, the UNLV Performing Arts Center hosted “Live from the UNLV PAC: Ricardo Cobo in a Benefit Concert,” a virtual event that patrons/students could watch live with proceeds to help cover some costs the UNLV Performing Arts Center incurred due to the pandemic.  Other pre-recorded events, such as “Sur La Table,” which runs through April 30th, are available for patrons to stream during a set time period.

The Hartford Symphony Spotlights Virtual Events

HARTFORD, CT – The Bushnell has been host to a myriad of performances in the greater Hartford area for over 90 years. Since 1992, The Bushnell and Tickets.com have shared a ticketing relationship bringing over 20,000 performances to the community.

During the last year, the COVID-19 pandemic brought venues challenges like never before, including temporary closures and new restrictions.  Throughout the pandemic, despite the restrictions and challenges, The Bushnell and Tickets.com were able to bring The Hartford Symphony Orchestra® performances to the community.

Using Tickets.com’s comprehensive ticketing solution ProVenue®, as well as MyProVenue™, the patron-facing digital ticket complement, The Hartford Symphony Orchestra held summer events with limited capacity outdoors and indoor virtual events in colder weather.

The Hartford Symphony Orchestra (HSO)

In July of 2020, HSO once again began performing live with the Summer Splash! Series.  To prioritize safety for performers as well as patrons, modifications on the ticket purchase flow and ProVenue set up had to be made including attendance caps, online-only sales, extended seat definitions for COVID waivers, and disabling ticket-forwarding.

As colder weather arrived and restrictions increased, HSO created the Spotlight Series. A brand-new way to experience the HSO, the Spotlight Series performances, which are still available through June, feature smaller ensemble collections recorded at venues in and around Hartford to be purchased and viewed as a virtual event.  For these events, The Bushnell created new delivery types and buyer types in ProVenue for streaming/virtual, as well as modified order confirmations to include a link with event information details.  Additionally in MyProVenue, featured promotions were set up to help communicate further details on these virtual events.

The Adolph & Rose Levis Jewish Community Center Virtually Double Events with Tickets.com ProVenue®

BOCA RATON, FL – The Adolph & Rose Levis Jewish Community Center (Levis JCC ) has had a long standing-relationship with Tickets.com.  Home to the Phyllis and Harvey Sandler Center for live events, the community center has served its Boca Raton patrons with a wide variety of arts and educational activities.  In 2020, with doors closed, the Community Center had to find new ways to continue to serve its art lovers, music buffs, adult students, travelers, theatergoers, and film enthusiasts – so they turned to hosting virtual events over Zoom.

The Change to Virtual Events

A change of this kind can be imposing but with many attendees over 65 the change was monumental for the  Levis JCC. Alan Nash, Assistant Director, Arts, Culture & Learning at Levis JCC commented,

“there was an in-depth education period for our community.  We spent  a significant amount of time making our community members comfortable with the technology and the offerings.”

Amidst this change, Levis JCC was also transitioning to the latest ProVenue® platform, migrating data, learning new software, and training on the go.  Nash continued,

“The Tickets.com client engagement team not only worked with us to go live on ProVenue but enabled us to adapt to our new ‘normal’.”

Virtual Memberships & Event Info

In ProVenue Levis JCC set up virtual memberships and events that were sold online.  Tickets.com assisted with some modifications to their email confirmations and also built conditionals into their ticket format to place event specific URLs, meeting ID’s and passwords onto the digital ticket that was delivered to the patron, ensuring they could seamlessly access their purchase.  This allowed the Levis JCC to continue their process of educating and engaging with their patrons even when they could not attend in-person.

“Using virtual events has been transformative.  We’ve been able to host over 140 events in the first quarter of 2021, which is what we had typically done in an entire year.  Plus, with virtual our attendance has grown.  In some cases, we’ve seen events with up to 5x our normal in-person sizes,” said Nash.

Recently the Levis JCC has gotten a lot of attention from these virtual events, one in particular hosted by Trudy Berlin, a 98-year-old and known in Boca Raton as the Jewish Oprah.  Berlin hosts the Tuesday virtual “Ladies Room” meeting at Levis JCC.  Moderating the group for almost 20 years, the event became virtual during the COVID pandemic and has nearly doubled the “Ladies” attending Berlin’s sessions.

Mike Dunham, Client Engagement, Tickets.com, said,

“It was a challenging year for everyone, we were glad to do anything and everything to help sell tickets and it was so rewarding to see the success in attendance and event volume.”

With Florida opening up, these virtual events can only add to the many community offerings provided by the Levis JCC.

Email Segmentation

Email Marketing: Engagement Segmentation

Simple yet effective – segmenting your email lists to focus on your engaged subscribers can help you increase your open rates & clickthrough rates.

Who is an “Engaged” Subscriber?

An engaged email subscriber is someone that has last opened or clicked an email within the last 30-90 days depending on your email frequency.

Who is an “Unengaged” Subscriber?

An unengaged email subscriber is someone that has not opened or clicked in the last 30 / 90-180 days.

Emails can be set up in CrowdConnect or your email marketing platform with a variety of rules, if/and statements to help define what works best for your business model and target the subscribers ready to open and click.

How does this help?

  1. Engagement segments help you to track your subscribers’ level of interaction with your emails.
  2. They help you identify subscribers who have lost interest in your content.
  3. Focusing on engaged audiences will increase the likelihood an email will be opened, read, and your ticket purchase links are clicked – and your overall ROI.

Why Not Send to My Whole List?

Emails do come at a cost, the more emails you send, the greater cost you incur.  And while the cost increases, the effectiveness of your email overall decreases.

With CrowdConnect the Tickets.com official email marketing platform powered by WhatCounts we will help you easily segment your emails and fish where the fish are.

If you are a current client check out how to easily segment your engaged subscribers and start increasing your ROI today.

Email Marketing: Emojis in Emails 🎟

Fun & Playful, Emojis: Can they help or hurt your emails?

It seems like a small thing, but the subject line in an email is a major factor in increasing your open rate.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves – is the emoji in a subject line right for everything?  Probably not.

And if we send too many emails with Emojis it can also have a negative effect on consumers which ultimately unsubscribe.

So, what’s the answer?  Testing of course!  Make sure you test your subject lines using A/B testing.  This can help you determine if the Emoji is an attention grabber or an annoyance.

As you put your tests together, here are some best practices to consider.

  • It can be too much of a good thing: Just like WRITING IN ALL CAPS, too many Emojis may indicate spam to recipients.
  • Context is key: with thousands of Emojis you can customize your choice to be relevant.
  • Consider your target audience: A survey of 1,000 Americans showed that, millennials regard using emojis positively.
  • Email Tone: Emojis can change an email from formal to playful. If you are messaging something serious, maybe skip the Emoji.

With CrowdConnect, the Tickets.com official email marketing platform powered by WhatCounts, we will help you easily add and test Emojis to your ❤️’s content.

Email Marketing: Button Up.

Buttons, links, and other clickable actions are a major part of creating an email campaign with purpose.  So, let’s get down to some strategies to help you improve your click-ability.

The link is a powerful tool that can be placed on text, and images.

Something to consider is the hover.  When you roll your mouse over this link – what does it say?  Does it give you context on where it will take you?

Links are primarily used to “go somewhere.” Any time someone is navigating to a website, using a link is helpful and can be a good formula for providing more in-depth information.

Why Use a Button?

Buttons on the other hand are typically used to indicate an ACTION or getting a subscriber to “do something”, like buy a ticket.  They also have the ability to stand out.

With CrowdConnect the Tickets.com official email marketing platform powered by WhatCounts you can easily add buttons and links to optimize your email performance.

TICKETS.COM KNOCKS IT OUT OF THE BALLPARK WITH THE AUSTRALIAN BASEBALL LEAGUE

2020/21 CHAMPIONS – MELBOURNE ACES

North Wollongong, Australia – Monday, February 15th 2021, the Australian Baseball League (ABL) 2020/21 season has come to an unprecedented, yet successful end during the COVID-19 pandemic. Tickets.com congratulates the 2020/21 Claxton Shield Championship winners, the Melbourne Aces.

The ABL began doing business with Tickets.com during the World Baseball Classic Qualifier in 2016, and the pair signed a league deal shortly thereafter.  In 2020, the ABL renewed a 5-year deal with Tickets.com. The ABL utilises Tickets.com’s ProVenue® suite of products and services offerings, including the administrative support in creating events on behalf of the participating teams, provided by Tickets.com staff.

“Unlike other ticketing platforms, Tickets.com is willing to step up to the plate and offer more kinds of customer service experiences to meet the unique needs of each client.” Shane Tonkin, GM Commercial & Marketing, Australian Baseball League.

With modified conditions throughout the 2020/21 season, Tickets.com worked with the teams to ensure that there was a solution for all of the curveballs this unpredictable season threw.  With sudden changes in border closures due to COVID restrictions, cancelled games, and changes in opponents, Tickets.com and ABL were covering all bases throughout the season.

“At each turn, we adapted to the event changes by creating, removing, adjusting, and cancelling as needed.  We automated refunds so that cancelled games were processed seamlessly.  This allowed the ABL to offer patrons the option to have refunds added as a credit for redemption in-house or online for their next purchase. ” Hayley Dobbs, General Manager Tickets.com Asia Pacific.

Despite the fluid situation, another successful season has come to an end.  Rollovers for Season Memberships and Auto Memberships Renewals are underway for the 2021/22 season, and patrons can lock in their preferred seats in advance.

“We look forward to working with ABL over the coming seasons” Hayley Dobbs, General Manager Tickets.com Asia Pacific
